A media of diverse communities
Montrealers have been listening to Radio Centre-Ville, the city's multilingual
community radio station, since January 1975. They have enjoyed broadcasts
in seven different languages: French, English, Spanish, Greek, Portuguese,
Creole, and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).
Since its inception, the mission of Radio Centre-Ville has been to serve
the community of a small territory of Montreal known as the "Quartier St-Louis",
to be the voice of its voiceless and its community groups, and to enrich
the Montreal community by showcasing the expression of the music and culture
of both here and elsewhere. A crossroads of cultures in
the image of Montreal
Today, it is over forty communities that listen to and receive our services
on a daily basis. The range of the broadcasts illustrates the interest of
Radio Centre-Ville: to be both a resource for new immigrants and a crossroads
of expression for all the voices of our society, thereby contributing to
a feeling where people increasingly feel like citizens.
And all of this could not be achieved without the essential support of
the 350 volunteers, who struggle on a daily basis, to give life to 102.3
FM. For the past 31 years, they have managed the radio at all
levels. Everyone collectively collaborates, day and night, in order to
create both an intercultural radiophonic project of quality and to increase
the range of services offered to the collectivity.
Information with a different approach
The treatment of news at Radio Centre-Ville permits the listeners to better
contemplate the stakes of their living conditions, the problems that impact
on them, as well as the means by which to remedy the aforementioned. What
results are rich and varied broadcasts, resembling the reality and needs
of the community.
Radio Centre-Ville is always engaged both culturally and in the reception
of the influx of new trends. It is home to musical and theatrical discoveries,
and is a permanent artistic experimental stage. Check it all out for yourself
at 102.3 FM!
